Based on a True Story Studios is the inaugural venture of House of Mandela Entertainment: a distribution house built so that stories from Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, South and South-East Asia, and the Pacific reach the world on their own terms — uncut, untranslated into someone else's idea of universal.

We acquire, finance and place work from filmmakers, documentarians and animators who are telling true things: histories, inheritances, futures. Each title travels with its context intact — the language, the score, the pace, the people who lived it. Distribution here is not a pipeline. It is custodianship.

The name is a promise. Every title we carry begins with something that actually happened to someone, somewhere, and was worth remembering.
